U10 Gymnastics
On Sunday 8 February, our incredible U10 gymnasts attended the 5-piece Independent Schools Gymnastics National Finals. The girls performed valiantly against very tough competition.
This competition comprises five different events that the girls must perform: a set floor routine along a strip of mats which all gymnasts perform the same; a voluntary floor routine to music across a 12x12m square; a set vault (handspring flat back), performed by all the girls; and a voluntary vault (the best vault they can perform).
Fifteen schools attended the event and out of seventy girls, Amber finished in 46th place, India finished in 45th place and Stella finished in 41st place. Well done, girls!
U10 Netball v Bablake
On Monday 9 February, three U10 netball teams welcomed Bablake Junior School for a series of BEE netball fixtures. In the lead-up to the matches, the girls had been focusing in Games lessons on tight defensive marking and improving the timing of their attacking runs. It was fantastic to see these skills put into practice so effectively during the games.
All Prep teams performed superbly against strong mixed Year 5 and Year 6 Bablake sides. The girls thoroughly enjoyed the experience and represented the school with enthusiasm and excellent sportsmanship. Thank you to the many spectators who came along to support them, and a big well done to all the girls who played.
U11 IAPS Netball
On Wednesday 11 February, the U11 7-a-side netball team travelled to Oundle School for the IAPS Netball Qualifiers where they finished an impressive third overall out of twenty schools from across the region.
The girls were exceptional throughout the day. They listened carefully to advice, showed great determination and gave their absolute best in every match. They should be incredibly proud of their achievement. Warwick Prep excelled in the pool stage, winning all of their matches without conceding a single goal – an incredible 48 minutes of netball in which no opposition managed to score against them.
Carrying that momentum into the knockout stages, they won 7–2 in the quarter-final against Ratcliffe College, progressing to the semi-final against Solihull School. In a closely contested match, they narrowly lost 6–8. Although understandably disappointed, the girls showed tremendous character to regroup and refocus.
In the third/fourth-place play-off, they produced a brilliant performance to beat Chesham Prep 9–3, securing third-place medals and finishing the tournament on a high.
A fantastic achievement for the team. We are extremely proud of every single one of them. Thank you to all the spectators who came to support them.
Sports Stars of the Week
Each week during games lessons, PE staff will identify one child from each year group to receive the Sports Star of the Week award. These will be announced in the following week’s games lesson, displayed on the sports noticeboard and publicised in Squirrel News.
Congratulations to this week’s Sports Stars of the Week:
• Year 3: Faryal showed great focus on her technique, delivering strong chest and overhead passes. She performed well in defence, creating pressure and making interceptions
• Year 4: Annabelle H for organising her team, driving forward and demonstrating application of marking skills in BEE netball
• Year 5: Elizabeth for her consistent great play across all positions in BEE netball
• Year 6: Lola for her performance in badminton. She listened to advice given about how to improve, was proactive during group discussions and was very effective on court
