U9/U11 Cross Country
On Friday 6 March, a team of Year 4 and Year 6 girls competed in the Leicester Grammar School cross country race. The U11s ran a tough 2km course and finished 2nd overall as a team with Hattie coming in at 4th place and Lydia placing 5th overall individually. The U9 team also ran incredibly well over the 1.5km course, including fields, plenty of mud and woodland. They placed 5th as a team. Huge congratulations to all the girls who took part and thank you to the spectators who were able to come and support the runners.
U11 In2Hockey County Tournament
Huge congratulations to the girls who played in the In2Hockey County tournament on Monday 9 March. The girls showed brilliant teamwork as well as excellent individual skill to come in 1st place with no goals conceded across the whole tournament – an amazing achievement! The team are now through to the Midlands finals taking place next Friday. We wish the girls the best of luck in the next round!
U10 Netball v Blue Coat
Three of our U10 teams enjoyed a friendly fixture against Blue Coat on Monday 9 March. The 7-side team played a strong Blue Coat side and came away with a well-fought 14-13 win. Prep’s 5-side teams won one game and lost the other. The girls have been working hard on their dodging skills in their Games lessons and this really showed in the fixture. Well done to all the girls who took part and thank you to the parents who came to support.
U11 Netball v Bromsgrove
On Wednesday 11 March, all the Year 6 girls took part in a fixture against Bromsgrove.
The U11 C team had a tough fixture against a strong Bromsgrove side. After a slow start in the first half, Prep began to play some excellent attacking netball with good movement in the second half. Unfortunately, the Bromsgrove B team proved too strong. It was a good second half performance with lots of improvements made. Well done all!
The U11 D team played a strong opposition and took a bit of time to settle. The defence were on fire in the last quarter but Bromsgrove had already crept ahead. The final score was 6-4. Well done to Player of the Match, Taliah.
The U11 E team had a fabulous game with good movement followed by accurate shooting which gave them a 4-0 lead after the first quarter. They had great confidence in each other and all played well as a squad. The hard work defending from everyone gave lots of attacking opportunities, with a final score of 9-2. The girls should be very proud of how they all took on-board coaching advice. The Players of the Match were Avani and Nieve.
U11 ESSA Prep School Swimming
On Thursday 12 March, Warwick Prep hosted one of the English Schools Swimming Association (ESSA) regional rounds. We saw 10 schools attend with a total of 17 teams. Our freestyle relay team made up of Alice, Chloe, Dylan and Emilia raced fast against some strong competition with our girls finishing 1st overall. In the medley relay, our team was made up of Alice, Arabelle, Emilia and Ottie who had a really close race between themselves and Solihull and finished 1st overall.
We are really proud of the girls and now await the completion of all the regional rounds, after which we will be informed of our placing in the West Midlands. The top three schools in the West Midlands qualify for the finals at Ponds Forge International Pool in Sheffield on Saturday 20 June. Fingers crossed, girls!
Sports Stars of the Week
Each week during games lessons, PE staff will identify one child from each year group to receive the Sports Star of the Week award. These will be announced in the following week’s games lesson, displayed on the sports noticeboard and publicised in Squirrel News.
