IAPS Tennis Competition – Clifton College
It was an early start on Monday 11 May for the IAPS tennis team as they travelled to Clifton College for the national competition. Liberty and Laurel represented Warwick Prep as the first pair and played some excellent tennis in their group. Facing teams from St Hugh’s, Tockington and Cheam, they battled hard, winning five singles games and one doubles match, which meant they finished in third place.
The second pair, Bronte and Suri, were matched against Brentwood Prep and St George’s Junior School. They won three of their four singles matches and one doubles match, finishing as runners-up in their section of the competition.
It was lovely to see the girls from Year 4 and Year 6 having so much fun both on and off the court together and bonding as a team. Well done to all involved!
U8/U9/U10/U11 Swim Gala v Warwick Junior School
On Monday 11 May, we held an incredible swimming gala against Warwick Junior School. Races were tight across all age groups. Our Year 4 girls are currently showing that they are exceptionally quick and they are hungry to win. For the first time in what we think is history, our girls beat the boys in the epic final race – ‘The Float Race’!
It was a wonderful event, with more than sixty pupils participating and it showcased the huge array of excellent swimmers we have across the Warwick Schools Foundation.
U9 Cricket Fairfield Festival
On Saturday 9 May, the Year 4 team played their first cricket match against Fairfield Prep School. Batting first, they showed impressive teamwork to set a high total for Fairfield to chase. Despite some accurate bowling, they were narrowly beaten by the mixed team from Fairfield. A special mention goes to Annabelle, who bowled a maiden over.
After a quick picnic, the girls began their second match against Repton School. Batting first once again, they finished with a score of 251. Repton went into the final over needing nine runs to win, but the girls held them to eight, securing victory by just one run.
Well done to the whole team in their first cricket matches of the year!
U11 Tennis Fairfield Tournament
On Saturday 9 May, the Year 6 tennis team had a successful day at the Fairfield Prep School tennis tournament.
In the singles competitions, Bronte won Group A, with Lottie finishing as runner-up, while in Group B, Bea was the winner and Jess finished as runner-up.
The girls also put in a great performance in the doubles competition, with the two Warwick teams making it to the final. Bronte and Jess just pipped Bea and Lottie to the title.
It was a fantastic performance from all the girls and a great experience of some competitive tennis for the group.
U11 Football v The Canons – Semi Final WSFA Cup
Warwick Prep U11 team produced arguably their most complete performance of the season with an outstanding 6–0 victory over The Canons Primary School (Bedworth) in the Warwickshire County Schools Football Association Cup semi-final on Friday 8 May.
From the very first whistle, Warwick Prep played with exceptional intensity, energy, and purpose, pressing high up the pitch and never allowing the opposition time to settle. The team remained firmly on the front foot throughout, combining excellent organisation with relentless work rate and attacking quality in a dominant display.
The performance reflected the significant progress the group has made across the season, both individually and collectively. The players moved the ball with confidence, defended aggressively as a team, and showed increasing maturity in their decision-making and understanding of the game.
Most importantly, the squad once again demonstrated outstanding commitment to one another and great pride in representing Warwick Prep. The victory secures a place in the Warwickshire County Cup final and continues an excellent season for football at the school.
Attention now turns to the U10 team, who are also competing a year above their age group in the same competition. The squad now eagerly await news of their semi-final opponents, with the exciting possibility of Warwick Prep having two teams represented in the U11 County Cup final.
Foundation Ski Taster Days
Following the successful development of Warwick Foundation Ski Racing over the past few years, we recently offered some taster sessions to encourage more students to give skiing and ski racing a go. Using our home base of Swadlincote Snowsports Centre, sessions took place on Sunday 19 April and Sunday 10 May.
Demand far exceeded expectation, with nearly fifty (Year 5 to Year 7) students across the Warwick Schools Foundation attending over the two sessions. With those who can already ski gaining a taste of basic Ski Racing, and many students hitting the beginner slopes to learn to ski for the first time, the sessions have proved a great success.
Several of the beginners are aiming to prepare before going on school ski trips next winter and this training hopefully will provide them with the basic skills for when they reach the snow. Of those students who have skied before, a number have the potential to join our existing race teams. This should result in a stronger Foundation presence at forthcoming Regional and National Schools Ski Races.
We hope to be able to offer more sessions for all in the very near future. Watch this space for news of more taster sessions in the Autumn Term too.
Sports Stars of the Week
Each week during games lessons, PE staff will identify one child from each year group to receive the Sports Star of the Week award. These will be announced in the following week’s games lesson, displayed on the sports noticeboard and publicised in Squirrel News.
