U10 Hockey v Arnold Lodge
On Monday 1 December, two of our U10 teams played at home against Arnold Lodge. The girls demonstrated an excellent understanding of the game, showing real strength in both attack and defence. Their matches reflect the hard work they have been putting into Games lessons and clubs, and the progress they are making is fantastic to see.
Both teams won with a score of 3-1. A big well done to all the girls who took part and thank you to the parents who came along to support.
U11 Netball v Dragon School
On Wednesday 3 December, all our Year 6 girls took part in a home fixture against Dragon School. Seven teams took to the courts and produced some fantastic netball, impressing everyone with their determination, teamwork and focus. The afternoon ended with four wins, one draw and one loss for Warwick Prep. Well done to all the girls who took part, we look forward to seeing your progress throughout the Spring Term. Thank you also to the parents who came along to show their support.
U11 Football v Northampton
In the third round of the ESFA U12 National Cup, the U11 football team faced Northampton School for Girls at home in a tough contest against a physically strong side. We enjoyed the better of the first half and created several good chances but were caught on the counter to go 1–0 down.
The second half was end to end, with Northampton carving out the clearer opportunities. Our girls defended resolutely and worked incredibly hard throughout. Their movement off the ball and overall game sense continue to develop with every fixture. A brief lapse was punished to make it 2–0, but the team refused to give in, battling against very physical opposition and earning a late penalty that was confidently converted.
Although the journey ends here in the U12 competition, the girls should be proud of their performance and the progress they have made. We continue to train with purpose as we prepare for the remaining competitions in the new year.
Sports Stars of the Week
Each week during games lessons, PE staff will identify one child from each year group to receive the Sports Star of the Week award. These will be announced in the following week’s games lesson, displayed on the sports noticeboard and publicised in Squirrel News.
Congratulations to this week’s Sports Stars of the Week:
• Year 4: Tara for showing a great ability to time her movements and turn in the air in netball
• Year 5: Dalia for making great progress on her footwork skills
• Year 6: Eliska for working super hard in hockey. She clearly listened to what was being asked of the players and used width in attack effectively during game play. Lois for fabulous defensive work in her match this week and making great passing decisions!
